The 10 Most Rewatchable Movies Ever

By ISAAC TAYLOR

The best movies are the ones you come back to over and over. For sub par movies it’s generally because of the nostalgic emotional payload it’s able to deliver. But when we all come together and hash through all those oddball films we’re able to pull together a quality list of movies, that should be watched pronto if you haven’t seen them already.

The list comes care of a surveymonkey poll run by fivethirtyeight.com from a little over 1.1k participants.

1. STAR WARS

There’s a reason Disney is starting to release one of these films a year. Star Wars is a powerful franchise that opened up modern cinema to the nerdy state it’s in now. Spiderman and the Avengers wouldn’t have made it into cinema if it wasn’t for the groundwork Star Wars laid down in the 70s.

2. THE WIZARD OF OZ

Released in 1939 The Wizard of Oz has been a kids favourite for several generations. It was nominated for a best picture award but lost to another film on this list, Gone With the Wind.

3. THE SOUND OF MUSIC

Another music The Sound of Music has captured the hearts of a generation. That famous scene with her pin wheeling around on a mountain was actually a real mess to film.

“Somebody forgot to mention that Austria has the world’s seventh-highest annual rainfall. We had a lot of rain while we were shooting,” she recalled. “A lot of the time we actually shot with rain.”

So that’s the story of how the Sound of Music was really Singing in the Rain.

4. THE LORD OF THE RINGS SERIES

9 hours of solid entertainment, the only thing that takes more commitment than the Lord of the Rings series is marriage.

5. GONE WITH THE WIND

Claiming the best picture crown from Wizard of Oz was the much more serious and Oscar bait worth Gone with the Wind.

6. THE GODFATHER

One of those movies that people are always quoting but half the people in the room have never seen. It’s a classic though and definitely deserved to be watched an even rewatched. It’s pacing is rather slow though, for people out there that have been spoilt by Game of Thrones and expect someone to do every five minutes.

7. THE PRINCESS BRIDE

The Princess Bride and its weird sense of humour have survived for years, making it an unlikely cult classic.

8. THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

Consistently the highest rated movie on IMDb The Shawshank redemption has the perfect story arc with an amazing twist ending that has everyone coming back year after year to watch again.

9. THE HARRY POTTER SERIES

Harry Potter provides the perfect escapism for retreating to our childhoods when things were simpler and all you really needed to do was destroy random objects that contained the essence of an evil magician.

10. IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE

A classic Christmas favourite, It’s a Wonderful Life deals with something we all go through sometimes wishing we weren’t born.
